DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

INTRODUCTION:

The department of English started in 1989 with the establishment of the senior college. It is said that English is the soul of any educational institution; the department tries at its best to maintain the quality of education. The department is fulfilled with well qualified and studious faculties. Dr. Bhagwan Gunjalwad is heading the department who has published and presented more than 30 research papers. The other faculty Dr. Meghraj N Pawar joined the department in 2010 and has also published and presented about 30 research papers. Both of them have written research papers in national/international journals. Also they have presented research papers in national/international conferences/seminars.

            Taking into consideration the rural background of the students, the department conducts Remedial Coaching classes, Spoken English classes for students’ enrichment. The department makes utmost efforts to help the slow learners in English. Innovative teaching methods such as GD, seminars, PPT, use of ICT etc. are used.

 The department arranges study tours of the students to nearby villages as the part of outreach programme. This year, visit to rural educational institution was arranged to help the school students to remove fear of English language from their minds. Our students made an interaction with the school students which was a substantial outreach activity. This was warmly welcomed by the villagers too.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To make students communicative in English language.
  • To remove fear of English language from their minds.
  • To introduce English literature to the students.
  • To create interest of literature in students.

CONFERENCES & SEMINARS:

 

  • One Day National Seminar on Politics, Culture and Religion in Post-modern Nobel Laureates’ Literature held on 6th January 2015.

 

ACTIVITIES AND FACILITIES:

 

  • The department organizes various activities such as seminars, Group Discussions etc.
  • The department is well-equipped with computer and internet facility.
  • The facility of Audio-visual aid is available in common.

 

                                                                                                                               

 

EXTENSION ACTIVITY:

  • The department arranged study tour to the rural schools as the part of outreach programme. The students interacted with the school children to free them from fear of English language.
  • The faculties delivered guest lectures in other colleges.
  • The faculties also participate in institutional social responsibility through NSS and other departments.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY:

 

  • The department has library having more than 50 books, and study material for students.

 

FUTURE PLANS:

  • To start Language Laboratory.
  • To take Minor and Major Research Projects.
  • To try to offer career oriented course.
